About the Ink Wash Series
Varying washes of black ink blend, dab, and spill across white paper to capture the human form in a dynamic abstracted emotional space. In these psychological landscapes, wispy thoughts spring forth into organic gardens of thought. Pure instinct smolders up from the pit of the stomach as rigid claws and teeth. A mind becomes calm, meditative, in a sea of soft waves.
My creative process is meditative, starting with a simple concept or facial expression. The ink allows a fluid balance between physical facial contours and expressions of inner thought or emotion that bloom forth from the figure. I find this a similar concept to the way we, as humans, experience life on both a physical as well as emotional level.
My aim is to let the viewer discover their own emotional response to the work through this convergence of the figure and the flow of ink on paper.
